The NBA is the world’s most popular basketball league by far as the best athletes on the globe compete for basketball’s biggest prize. It is no surprise then that the NBA is the most attractive league to bet on but NCAA College basketball and Euroleague are both also very popular with sports bettors.
As with all big sports these days there are many different basketball markets to bet on within any given match. Bigger bookmakers tend to offer more markets on some very specific things but generally the biggest markets are as follows:
Money Line – This is a US betting term which is simply the win market with odds reflecting the likelihood of each team winning.
Handicap/Point Spread – This method produces equal odds for both teams by placing a points handicap on the favourite. If you back the favourite then they must win by more than the predetermined points spread. Back the underdog and you’ll win your bet if they win the match or simply lose by less than the handicap amount.
Total Points – This is where you bet on the total number of points in a match. The predicted number of points will be set before the game and bets can then be placed on whether the points total will be either over or under that number. This is exciting in basketball where there can be a lot of points scored.
There are of course many other markets to bet on such as highest individual point scorer but the ones above are by far the most popular.
Many bookies will reward regular basketball customers with free bets and other targeted special offers. As with all sports, some bookies offer money back promotions on certain scenarios in a game such as overtime losses.
